We believe that responsible school start up is a means to achieve our mission to nurture and grow high impact charter schools in the region. CSP has had the privilege to support pre-operational schools in the region in a variety of contexts, through our Fellowship program, our Charter Start program and in our capacity as the Walton Family Foundation grant partner in the region.
We have proudly partnered with the independent startup teams of Cornerstone Montessori, Minneapolis College Prep, West Side Summit, Northeast College Prep, Bdote Learning Center, and the network expansion leaders of Hiawatha Leadership Academy- Northrop and BEST Middle School. Additionally, CSP supported the startups of the following Walton Family Foundation grant recipients in Minneapolis: Hennepin Elementary School, Mastery School, Venture Academy, Prodeo Academy, and Upper Mississippi Academy.
Through our startup work, CSP team members have developed expertise in many critical aspects of startup work. In accordance with our mission and values, the organization works only with high potential schools who have a high likelihood of providing rigorous pathways to college success and life fulfillment for all of its students.

Areas of Expertise
Academic and Instructional Support: CSP team members have experience supporting the design of high impact school models that are predictive of high levels of student academic achievement and socio-emotional growth.
Board Governance: CSP believes appropriate and effective board governance is essential if charter schools are to meet their ambitious goals for academic and operational excellence and then maintain that performance at a high level. A key area of our expertise is developing a well-functioning board during a school’s start-up phase. Through a partnership with Board on Track, a national organization with unmatched expertise in charter school governance, CSP has provided a variety of tools and resources to help new boards establish good practices and a plan for ongoing development. For further information about our Board Governance programs, including Board on Track, please visit our Programs for Partner Schools page.
Facilities: Facility procurement is a significant milestone and challenge for pre-operational charter schools in the Twin Cities. CSP consults with school startup teams to guide their facility procurement. In addition, CSP has engaged with national organizations like Charter School Development Corporation and IFF, as well as local financing and development options, to bring additional perspectives and resources to local charter school boards searching for facilities options.
School Operations: Charter School Partners has developed a comprehensive set of organizing materials to guide startup teams through their pre-operational and first years of school operation. These resources draw from authorizer start-up checklists, the MDE Start-up checklist, MDE trainings for new charter schools and the expertise of experienced charter school leaders. See more detail on our resource offerings here.
Enrollment and Family Engagement: CSP believes that successful charter schools proceed from authentic relationships with community members and the trust of the families who will be served by new schools. Accordingly, CSP works with community engagement experts to facilitate community engagement events and enrollment campaigns. Additionally, to enable schools to honor their responsibilities to parents and community, CSP engages parents at operational schools through its Parent University offering.
